The apps meant to connect us mostly leave us lonelier. Endless scrolling, swiping past strangers, a “let us meet up sometime” that never arrives.
offline turns that around. A map shows what is happening near you today. You join with a small refundable deposit, and that is the whole trick: it means everyone else will actually turn up. You go, you confirm you were there, and only then can you connect with the people you met. There is no other route to a direct message.
I built all of it alone: the product, the mobile app, the backend, the payment system and the infrastructure. It has not launched yet.
WHAT I DID
- 01The loop — find an event, join with a deposit, show up, and only then can you connect
- 02The deposit as a guarantee — refundable, forfeited only if you fail to show. Not a fee
- 03Mobile app — React Native and Expo, iOS and Android, multilingual
